Apple’s iOS 18 software update added lots of new features, including Messages. It is great to be able to communicate with more creativity with the addition of cool new text effects and they are surprisingly easy to use too.
It is possible to animate words in a way that will enable you to convey a message, whether it is exploding words to convey a sense of excitement or jittering words to convey a sense of nervousness.
You can choose from eight different types of text effects and you can use them if you have iOS 18 or later. It is also worthwhile to remember that your recipient will need to be running iOS 18, iPad OS 18, or macOS 15 Sequoia to see the effect. So be sure you remember that as well. This feature is also only available for iMessage messages rather than SMS or RCS messages, so it can only be used with iMessage messages.
How to use text effects in Messages
A new text effect can be added to a word, or several words if you choose, and it can be done while you are typing or after the message has been composed – you can always go back and add the text effect after it has been written. Here are the steps you need to follow.
- Send your message by typing it out.
- Double-tap the word or words you want to effect.
- Tap the A icon to the right of the suggestions bar above the keyboard.
- Tap the animated effect you want to add to the selected word.
This feature is also available by tapping on Text Effects in the pop-up that appears when you select some words, rather than the A icon. The popup also includes Copy and Text Effects, for example, and you may have to click the > arrow on the far right to move forward.
Choosing from the list of animated effects can seem overwhelming if you aren’t sure which to choose. You can tap back on the words in your message if you want to continue typing normally if you decide not to use the effects offered.
All you need to know is that. Before sending your message, you can see how it looks so that you can be sure you want it.
IOS 18
IOS 18 was released in September 2024 and includes new features for customizing your Home Screen. It also includes a completely modified Control Center that has been completely redesigned and an entirely redesigned Photos app that has been designed from the ground up. Furthermore, iOS 18.1 is an additional update that will bring the much-vaunted Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone, which was also a significant component of the iOS 18.1 update.
